Dublin Comic Con: Aftermath

Con was great; really enjoyed meeting everybody again and getting our fun on. Met amazing proper artists like Tommy Lee Edwards, jaysis can that guy draw. Spent most of the two days paneling, sketching and drawing with fellow IDW Micks Thompson and Nick Roche, and of course the legendary Declan 'Widescreen' Shalvey. Met loads've people into Angel and the like, knocked out some decent sketches. Mostly of Hal Jordan for some reason, but I sure ain't complaining. The lady fans like their Spike drawings but after the fiftieth-odd one they do start to take their toll...
Speaking of sketches, if anybody who got one could scan it in and send it to me here at stephen@moondog.cc that'd be super, ta!

So I've started on my next book, an Angel mini-series for IDW. FINALLY I get to draw badass Wesley, my personal favourite.
Three issues, and then, who knows...

Ah, so awesome. Are you doing the last half of "Aftermath," or is this a completely new title? Does the title follow after "Aftermath" and continue to "After the Fall"/"Aftermath" numbering, or is it set earlier in the series. Gah, so excited either way! Wesley is my favorite character, and you've done a *fantastic* job there.

and then,who knows...?
serenity,god willing.

None of the above Pat. I dunno when it'll be announced, but its in the same vein as something currently on release.
And Jamie, while I LOVE the firefly characters, dunno if I could take that much reference-heavy work again...

Declan Shalvey said...

Yeah, at least Angel is in rooms and buildings and cities, but Firefly? Man EVERYTHING in that world is completely original and would take ages to draw.

Looking forward to the new book, sir. Your Angel work has been top-tier and far superior to any of the other artists on that book to date, in my humble opinion.

Hi Stephen! An IDW mini-series starring badass Wesley? Sounds killer. Who's writing the series? Not that it matters really, you already have me locked in to follow you to this piece. Ah, but damn my curiosity - who's writing it?

Badass Wesley sucks! Bumbling Wesley all the way!

Emmie- Sorry, dunno if I'm allowed reveal these things! I will say that the writer is no stranger to the 'verse...
Mark- Thanks again for all the help at the con last weekend man, you're the fella who makes it great I reckon. Y'know, besides those chuckle bros...
Thompson- You're wrong. Don't you ever get tired of being wrong? Bumbling Wesley was excellent but too much of a parody. Badass Wes was the bestest ever.

Stephen Mooney said...

Oh, and Declan, what can I say, thanks a lot man for such a glowing comment. Can't say that I agree with you, but I sure as hell appreciate the sentiment!

My good lord. I have to hand it to you, Mooney. You're brilliant in your execution of rendering a comic book a living, breathing entity AND you chat it up with the fans to boot on a regular basis. Sexual preference aside, I am in love with you sir. I must melodramatically state, however, that as issue 15 of After the Fall approaches and I see more and more of Uru's work again, and obviously, none of yours, I feel as though I could pull my skin off in one inch chunks until the physical agony matches that of my desire to see more of your fantastic work. Don't get me wrong (if that's possible after a statement like that), Uru's work actually looks a little more honed in now in these next issues, likely he's been training up for the big finale, but I seriously cannot wait for you to once again draw Wesley and in his OWN SERIES! He is the most human and visceral character there is. He's like Bones and Spock rolled into one. And for the record, Badass Wesley was ALWAYS there, just waiting to bust out and show the world that he meant business. Alright! Enough from me! Can't wait to hear more! -Darlingly Deadly Dexter

Stephen Mooney said...

Jaysis, cheers Dexter! Possibly my favourite comment ever. He IS like an unholy amalgamation of Spock and Bones...

Mr. Mooney, that's really awsome to hear that you'll be drawing more Angel! As a fellow ATF aritst, I have to say that your artwork is brilliant! Quite brilliant. Your character liknesses are amazing in every panel, and it was an honor to collaborate with 'ya a bit on issue #12, even if we've never actually met.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing your Wes stories. I agree that he's the coolest Angel character, especially when he's being his "Badass" self. Keep kickin' ass man! Your art is wonderful.

Stephen Mooney said...

Hey Man! Great to hear from you. Thanks so much for the kind words, I'm actually a big fan of your stuff also! The cover you did for ATF issue 13(Connor cradling Angel) is probably my favourite cover from the whole series, its beautiful.
I really like Franco's stuff too, I feel really lucky to have been able to join you guys in illustrating Brian and Joss' story. So what are you working on now man, mainly covers? My email is stephen@moondog.cc, you should get in touch!

Hey Mooney
Just wondering if you caught the email I sent?

nickrunge said...

Thanks Stephen! Means a lot man. I appreciate your comment about issue#13. I had a blast doing that one. Had two friends pose for some ref. photos and it ended up being one of my more successful pieces. And yeah, I've just been doing covers lately. Doing some painted stuff for a few of them.

Your Wesley cover for ATF is my favorite piece you've done. I really love the low angle you used and the way you handle lighting and shadows (on all your stuff).Amazing stained-glass background too. Really, really nice! Thanks for your e-mail. I'll get in touch with 'ya soon. Mine is nickrunge@comcast.net in case you ever need it.

Stephen Mooney said...

Luke: yep, got it. Sorry I didn't reply til now, my email had stuck it in the junk folder. Sketches will be on their way soon!

Nick: that's great man, the Wes cover is my favourite too. I tried really hard on that one cos I'd been waiting a while to get my hands on a Wesley cover! I'm a big fan of your version of him with the Wolfram and Hart business card too. Cheers for the email address, I'll fire off a mail to you when I get a sec!

Hi there. Glad to see that we will get more badass Wesley and I'm happy you got the job. Loved your cover work on Auld Lang Syne. Spike's facial expression(jummy!) and pose here http://www.idwpublishing.com/images/newreleases/0110/angel_ALS03-covMoon.jpg is amazing. Maybe he's a tiny bit too muscular, but meh.

Btw, do you ever sell any original art? I've seen that some comic artist do that and it would be amazing to own a cover. I just have to sell my kidney to get money first ;)

Stephen Mooney said...

Hi there Skytteflickan88!
Yep, I sell any and everything that I draw as I usually can't stand looking at it for very long! I still have that particular cover, and I sell them for very reasonable prices. I also sell the art from the interior Angel pages so if there's any of those that you really like I may still have it. If you'd like to know prices on any particular piece then just drop me an email at stephen@moondog.cc and I'll sort you out!

no problem,man.
just send em on whenever they`re ready.

PatShand said...

Hey, Stephen. I can't help it. Have to wager one more guess.

Could this possibly be from an episode adaptation, sort of like IDW is doing with "Smile Time" this month? Hm? Maybe?

Stephen Mooney said...

Y'know what Pat? It really could... if it were to be an episode, then which one? I know there's only one ep that I'd even consider adapting...

PatShand said...

I'm thinking big moments. And that looks a damn lot like Season Five Wesley (though, admittedly, it could be Season Four).

I'm thinking...

..."Not Fade Away"?

Skytteflickan88 said...

Okay, e-mailed you. Hope it comes through.

Good day, sun shines!
There have were times of troubles when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright pessimistic person.
I have never thought that there weren't any need in large starting capital.
Now, I feel good, I started take up real income.
It gets down to select a correct companion who uses your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, and shares the profit with me.

You may ask, if there are such firms? I'm obliged to tell the truth, YES, there are. Please be informed of one of them:
